What's getting played these days?

I've been playing StarCraft II a lot with Grorx. Mostly coop mode. Diablo III every now and again too. Even gave Dawn of War: Soulstorm a spin again recently. Does anybody else still play games? Shouldn't mind getting a bigger group together. Especially in Diablo III.

I am entirely in tabletop games with the occasional stint of Brutal Doom.

I used to love Warhammer FB and 40K but Games Workshop has gotten flat out ridiculous. $60 rule books, per race. Really, with the cost of their miniatures, their rules should just be straight up free or better bundled and cheaper. And putting all that aside, they just completely overhauled and changed EVERYTHING about FB trying to make it more like 40K. It's a completely different game now from what I've seen.

Yeah, I've seen so much salt over Age of Sigmar. Most people seem to be taking it as Games Workshop directly shitting in their mouth. Apparently some other company now has a ruleset that supports all the old Warhammer Fantasy Battles figures and stuff.

It might have been Kings of War by Mantic games, but I'm not positive. That's just what google turned up.

Looking at them, they are very similar. I couldn't find anything about incorporating WHFB stuff though. Other than minis look similar.

This last year was our first foray into table top gaming, aside from Magic: The Gathering, which we draft once per week and play on MTGO quite a bit.

Lazy copy/paste of games and recorded plays from a spreadsheet:
  • Race for the Galaxy 31
Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small 10
    7 Wonders Duel 7
Lord of the Rings LCG 6
    Star Realms 6
    Splendor 5
    Star Wars Armada 5
    Caverna 4
    Battle Line 4
    7 Wonders 3
    Imperial Assault 3
    Dominion 3
    Star Trek Attack Wing 3
    Boss Monster 3
Betrayal at House on the Hill 3
    Agricola 2
Summoner Wars - Alliances - Master Set 2
    Stone Age 2
    Pandemic 2
    Settlers of Catan 2
    Castles of Burgundy 1
    Rivals of Catan 1
    Epic Card Game 1
    Arena of the Planeswalkers 1
    Carcassone 1
    Asante 1
    Portal 1
    Forbidden Island 1
    Exploding Kittens 1
    DiceMasters 1
    Takenoko 1
    Hanabi 1
    Quarriors 1
    Zombie Dice 1
    Cards Against Humanity 1
    Munchkin 1
We've been trying out a little bit of every genre of board and table top game while playing our regular Heroes of the Storm / Diablo 3 / Hearthstone mix.

Also been hitting up the Torment beta and going through Fallout 4 and Pillars of Eternity.

Played Star Wars Battlefront briefly. Eagerly awaiting Overwatch.

We recently started a Pathfinder RPG / D&D 3.5 campaign.

Yeah! Probably biased because it was one of our first purchases, it plays really well with two players (we don't have to gather other people up for play to happen), and we've steadily gone through all of the expansions.

Man, Race for the Galaxy is one of my favorite games that I've utterly given up ever teaching people. They just get too frustrated. It takes 2 or 3 games to learn the symbology and bare mechanics. Then 5 more games to develop some sort of knowledge of how to cobble a strategy together. Then 10 more games to develop any sort of deck knowledge to be successful. Nobody I know has patience for that sort of shit.

It's definitely a challenge! The wife and I have had to teach it to two groups, and I think we have the rules explanation down to a science.

Race quickly became a top-requested favorite in both groups, along with 7 Wonders. It probably helps that most of our friends are either software engineers, serious gamers, or some combination of the two.

Yeah, that probably would help. I always end up fielding the same stupid questions over and over again.

"What's this card do? The symbol isn't on the cheat sheet."

"Well, if you just move you eyes down 1 inch, it's written out. Any time the symbol isn't on the cheatsheet, it's usually explained in full on the card."

"Oh, ok... so what's this card do?"

"Once again, just look down an inch."

"Oh ok, got it."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah."

"..."

"So what's this card do?"

We'll be bouncing back to it, for sure. :) Any of the items with a low count will get rotated to.

Right now we're focusing on Caverna and we're about to finally do some Star Wars X-Wing.

We wound up doing our second playthrough of Castles of Burgundy and it's become an instant favorite. I think we like it better than 7 Wonders: Duel, and we liked that quite a lot. Replay value seems like it's through the roof and it plays pretty quickly given how deep it feels.
